Walk into a hotel lobby restroom and the air quality tells you what kind of property this is within three seconds. A 2023 Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) survey found that “odor” is the #1 complaint in 64% of commercial restrooms — ahead of “cleanliness of floors” and “toilet paper supply”. A well-chosen commercial air freshener dispenser is the cheapest fix for that complaint.
This guide covers what to look for, the three dispenser types, and how to size them for your facility.
Why an Automatic Dispenser, Not a Passive One
Manual or reed-diffuser fresheners work in small offices. In a commercial restroom with 50+ uses a day, they fail because:
- They run out unpredictably
- Coverage is uneven (strong near the dispenser, gone 5 feet away)
- They look cheap
An automatic aerosol dispenser fires a metered puff every 5–30 minutes, so the room is consistently covered without staff intervention.
Three Dispenser Types
Standard battery-powered (entry tier). Runs on 2× AA batteries, adjustable spray interval (5/15/30 min), no display. Cheap (US$15–25) and reliable. The Wiyi S-22 Automatic Air Freshener Dispenser is this tier.
Remote-controlled (mid tier). Same hardware, but a small IR remote lets facilities staff adjust interval or pause at night without a ladder. Worth the small premium for any facility with multiple floors. See the S-22 R remote control model.
LCD programmable (premium tier). Day-of-week scheduling, day/night mode (longer interval at night to save aerosol), and on-screen diagnostics. The Wiyi S-22 LCD Programmable Aerosol Air Freshener Dispenser is the right pick for hotels, airports, and high-end retail where the dispenser is visible and the schedule is more complex.
Sizing: How Many Dispensers per Square Meter?
Rule of thumb from our installation data across 200+ commercial projects:
- 1 dispenser per 20 m² of restroom floor area
- Place at 2.0–2.4 m height, near the door, away from the toilet exhaust fan
- For multi-stall layouts, 1 dispenser per 3 toilet stalls
A 50 m² hotel lobby restroom (4 stalls) needs 2–3 dispensers, not one.
Refill Choice Matters
Most complaints about dispensers (“it leaks”, “the spray is weak”) actually come from the refill can, not the dispenser. Standard 300 ml cans deliver about 3,000 sprays. At a 15-minute interval, that’s 31 days of operation per refill.
Wiyi supplies both dispensers and matching refill cans in 10 fragrance options (lavender, citrus, ocean, etc.). One source, one warranty, one freight cost.
Total Cost of Ownership (3-Year Example)
For a 100-room hotel with 4 lobby restrooms (8 dispensers total):
| Item | Cost |
| 8 × S-22 LCD dispensers | US$320 (one-time) |
| Refill cans (10 per year) | US$480/year |
| Battery replacement | US$40/year |
| 3-year total | US$2,000 |
That’s US$20 per room over 3 years, or roughly 5 cents per guest-night — the cheapest guest satisfaction dollar you can spend.
